Munitions Response Forum

Effective February 1, 2011, ASTSWMO is no longer providing organization support to ECOS Grant States and volunteer States on the MRF.  For additional information, please read the February 1, 2011, letter from ASTSWMO to U.S. EPA:  ASTSWMO Letter to U.S. EPA, RE: ASTSWMO Participation on MRF.

Carolyn Hanson, ECOS, will now provide support to ECOS Grant States and volunteer States, and can be contacted at (202) 266-4924 or chanson@ecos.org.

ASTSWMO will continue to distribute information between the MRF and State Federal Facility Managers and update this webpage, when requested.

Overview and Organization

The MRF was organized in Spring 2008.  The MRF is a State-led forum consisting of representatives from States, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Interior (DOI) and Department of Agriculture (USDA).  The primary goal of the MRF is to work collaboratively to identify, discuss and propose solutions to issues impacting munitions and explosives of concern (MEC) response actions at Munitions Response Sites.

Representatives from four Environmental Council of States (ECOS) Grant States are currently on the MRF:  Alaska, California, Illinois, and Maine.  These States and representatives will change periodically.  The four States strive to represent the interests of all States and Territories.  The MRF encourages participation from any State or Territory that is interested in assisting with and attending meetings, discussions and projects.

ECOS serves as the organizational support to Grants States and volunteer States concerning MRF activities.  ECOS staff coordinates information concerning MRF activities to and from all States and Territories as needed and requested, and serves as the gateway for information exchange to and from States and Territories and Federal partners.
