2004 State UST Inspector's Workshop

The workshop was held August 3 - 4, 2004 at the Key Bridge Marriott Hotel in Arlington, VA. The focus was on the implementation of the new Significant Operational Compliance (SOC) measures and other UST compliance topics. More than 70 State and Federal UST inspection officials attended. Sessions on SOC Development focused on the Release Prevention and Release Detection measures. To examine case studies UST managers from South Carolina, Texas and Pennsylvania made presentations. Robert Renkes, Executive Vice President of the Petroleum Equipment Institute discussed Operator Training: The Challenges and the Benefits as the luncheon speaker. To close out the first day there were technical training sessions on how to inspect for vapor releases; vapor-tight testing and periodic secondary containment testing. The second day included sessions on how to inspect for flex pipe problems; inspector training and competency and a federal update on energy legislation and EPA appropriations.
